AYURVEDIC ASPECT OF KSHINAARTAVA - A CONCEPTUAL STUDY

ABSTRACT
Ayurveda is an ancient Science, which has both aspect of prophylactic (Swasthrakshana) & curative (Vikarprashamana) which is the main aim of Ayurveda.[1] In Ayurveda Acharya Sushruta, Achaya Vagbhata & Aacharya Sharangdhara has been described Ashtaartava Dushti. Kshinartava is a variety of Ashtaartava Dushti which occurs due to Vata & Pitta Doshas.[2] It is characterized by irregular menstrual cycle (menstruation does not appear at its appropriate time), delayed menstrual cycle (intermenstrual period is prolonged for more than one month) or scanty menstruation (does not last more than 3 days) and associated with pain.[3] In modern science Kshinaartava is correlated with scanty menses and can be seen in two conditions i.e.
hypomenorrhea & oligomenorrhoea.
