DRUG PRESCRIBING PATTERN IN THE MANEGEMENT OF OSTEOPOROSIS

ABSTRACT
Osteoporosis is a major health problem, especially in elderly populations worldwide. It is commonly associated with fragility fracture at the hip, spine, and wrist. Osteoporosis is often called the silent disease because bone loss occurs without any over symptoms for a long period. The prevalence of osteoporosis increases markedly with age the pathogenesis is useful to understand the possible mechanism of action of anti-osteoporotic drugs. DEXA is regarded as the gold standard technique for diagnosis of osteoporosis. Treatment of osteoporosis is strictly related to severity of pathology and consists on prevention of fragility fractures with a correct lifestyle and adequate nutritional supplements, and use of pharmacological therapy, started in
Patients with osteopenia and history of fragility fracture of the hip or spine. The purpose of this review is to focus on the drug prescribing pattern in the management of osteoporotic patients.
