ABSTRACT
Gouty arthritis is a common inflammatory arthritis that has increased in prevalence in recent decades. A central aspect of pathogenesis of gout is elevated serum urate concentration (hyperuricemia). The acute symptoms of gout are triggered by the inflammatory response to monosodium urate crystals, mediated by macrophages and neutrophils. Initial presentation is mainly severe painful episodes of peripheral join synovitis but subcutaneous tophus deposition, joint damage and deformity can eventually develop. This review describes about the risk factor, and diagnostic findings in a patient with hyperuricemia, explains the pathophysiology of gout and identify treatment modalities for both acute and chronic gout. In this review we also discussed about the animal model for the screening of Gouty arthritis.
