A CONCEPTUAL STUDY ON KSHARA KARMA

ABSTRACT
In Ayurveda science, Shalya tantra is a part of Astanga Ayurveda which deals with operative and post-operative treatment process in various aspects of diseased condition, has various effective tools – Yantra, Shastra, Anushastra, Kshara Karma, Agni Karma etc. Among these types of tools, Kshara karma is one superior among the Anushastra or Upayantras told by the various Acharyas. It mainly has two types- Paniya Kshara & Pratisaraniya Kshara. Acharya Sushruta has defined as "tatra ksharanat kshananadva kshara". It is meant to destroys and removes the unhealthy, vitiated tissues (Ksarana) or it torments the un-healthy tissues (ksanana). Acharya Chakrapani has described the method of preparation of Kshara. Acharya Yadavji also has properly described on Kshara Kalpana. Kshara Therapy not only minimizes complications but also reduces recurrence of the disease. It has less pain, minimum bleeding, cost effective, and easily manageable by local anesthetic agent. There is no chance of any harmful effect in our body. So these concepts of Kshara in Ayurveda should be widely spread into our society for educate on therapeutic as well as pharmaceutical importance.
