ABSTRACT
Metabolites are products of xenobiotic metabolism, formed when acted by different enzymes. Metabolite Identification or MET ID is a study of natural or conventional drug molecules and their therapeutic effects after generating metabolites using suitable species under suitable conditions. Quercetin is a polyphenolic compound widely present in variety of species in its varying concentrations. It is used for its therapeutic effects like anti-oxidant, anti-inflammatory, cardiovascular protection, neurodegenerative disorders, cancer, apoptosis, ulcer, gastritis, anti-bacterial and anti- viral. Role of regulatory aspect is to provide practical guidance for monitoring safety of herbal drugs. Hyphenated techniques like LC-MS, LC-MS/MS using ESI as an
ionization tool Q-TOF and Ion trap as mass analyzer with change in modes like positive and negative are performed using different set of in vitro and in vivo techniques. Regioselectivity can be referred as the enzyme specific metabolite formation. Various techniques till date have been invented to determine the site of metabolism but some techniques have their own limitations for identifying the exact site. Therefore there was a need to develop techniques like NMR and LC-MS with post column derivatization to give more precise results.
Keywords: Quercetin, metabolites, LC-MS/MS, Post column derivatization.
