ABSTRACT
Mode of action of drug is a very critical issue when we take any herbomineral formulation in consideration. But it is very essential to assure therapeutic efficacy of the formulation. Sutshekhar Rasa is a Kharaliya type of herbomineral formulation that contains mineral origin, plant origin and animal origin drugs. Five different type of formulations are described in our different classical texts with the name Sutshekhar Rasa. Among these all, the Sutshekhar Rasa described in Yoga Ratnakar is very popular and commonly used. Since Sutshekhar Rasa is a Gold containing formulation which is very costly so there are two types of preparations which are available in market of the name Suvarna Sutshekhar Rasa (with gold) and Sada Sutshekhar
Rasa(without gold). In a day to day practice various Vaidyas routinely use this preparation for treating many diseases like Amlapitta (Hyperacidity), Agnimandya (Anorexia), Chardi (vomiting), Kasa (cough), Gulma (Abdominal Lump), and other pitta pradhanvyadhi. The present study aimed to critically review the ingredients of this formulation and probable mode of action of Sutshekhar Rasa in different clinical conditions by describing the properties of each of the ingredients.
