ANALYTICAL REVIEW ARTICLE OF POLYCYSTIC OVARIAN SYNDROME

ABSTRACT
PCOS (Poly Cystic Ovarian Syndrome) is probably fastest growing health hazard amongst women of reproductive age, a common hormonal condition caused due to excessive release of androgens which affects 8-10% of women of reproductive age, high prevalence in Indian subcontinent (52%). leading to fertility problems like unreleased ovum during menstrual cycle & having ovaries that contains many small cystic structures. This is frequently associated with insulin resistance and obesity. PCOS associated some features are closely related with some of Yonivyapada yet some features nearly bring into its relation with Aartvadushti. Lifestyle modifications for weight reduction and exercise in overweight women, smoking and alcohol consumption impacts on metabolic issues in turn leads to insulin resistance and obesity in pathogenesis of PCOS and susceptibility to develop type2 diabetes, so line of management includes inducing ovulation with claimed treatment, surgical removal of cyst, dietary changes and lastly with in vitro fertilization. In ayurvedic perspective Artava is responsible for reproduction and Srotas involved is Artavavaha srotas. All Tridosha's plays important role in process of female reproduction where in Vata helps in Gati of follicle during ovarian cycle, action of hormones expresses the Pitta and Kapha in nourishing the tissues (by its Guru, Sheeta & Snigdha qualities) of reproductive system. so PCOS is Kapha obstructing Vata & Pitta. chikitsa adopted is treating Vata first then pitta & Kapha next.
