IMPLANT TREATMENT, DISADVANTAGES & FAILURES – A DENTAL STUDENTS VIEW POINT

ABSTRACT

Currently the implant treatment is familiar to the patients for missing teeth and largely performed in dentistry, so this requires higher level of expertise among dental students. This study is performed to evaluate the knowledge and perception of dental implant and its failures among the dental student’s. And also discuss the factors that contribute to implant failure. Material And Method A web based questionnaire survey was conducted on August and September 2020, the questionnaire consists of 15 questions on dental implant and was conducted and assessed among 125 participants. Results Among 125 Participants, 56% participants regard high cost of treatment is biggest disadvantage of dental implant and 75% participants blame failure of implant due to Poor maintenance, 65% participants believe implant can last for lifetime, and 58% participants complain peri-implantitis has main condition for failure of implant. Conclusion So the study reveals the risk factors of dental implant due to high chance of poor maintenance and peri-implantitis in the patients, disadvantages like requirement of invasive surgery, high cost play a major role in implant treatment.
