A CRITICAL REVIEW ON CONTENTS OF PANCHATIKTA GHRITA ON SKIN CANCER

ABSTRACT
The incidence and mortality rates of skin cancer are rising in the United States and in many other countries. Concerns about stratospheric ozone depletion adding to the problem have made many organizations look at public and professional health programs as a possible solution. Early detection can reduce the problem in the short term, because mortality due to melanoma is clearly related to the depth of invasion of the tumor when it is removed. This is the factor which is amenable to change in an education program on early detection. Exposure to sunlight is clearly related to risk of development of skin cancer, including both melanoma and non-melanoma skin cancers. Because of serious side
effects of chemotherapy and radiation therapy, many cancer patients seek alternative complementary methods of treatment. So there is need To develop more effective and less toxic drugs through the heritage of Ayurveda. Plants have been used for treating diseases since time immemorial. The recent research findings give valuable information that the herbs such as Nimba, Guduchi, Vasa, Patol, Kantakari and Triphala are possessing anti-carcinogenic property and are useful at various levels. In the present study, an attempt is made by the authors to review recent research findings and record the data of the herbs useful in the management of skin cancer for the benefit of the mankind as well as the enthusiastic young scientist who are interested to work on these lines. Aim & Objective: To study the role of contents of Panchatikta ghrita on skin cancer. Materials and Method: The ingredients of Panchatikta ghrita were studied for their scientific validation. The Ayurvedic classics, online journals, research articles were thoroughly reviewed for compiling the relevant data about contents of PTG. Observation and Result: A review of various research Articles have proved anticancer activity of these ingredients. Conclusion: Panchatikta ghrita is a polyherbal formulation. And this review on contents of PTG has presented a collective knowledge on therapeutic properties, pharmacological and anticancer activity.
