CONCEPT OF BEEJ, BEEJBHAG, BEEJBHAG AVAYAVA DUSHTI AYURVEDIC AND MODERN VIEW

ABSTRACT
The concept of genetics was in existence since the time of ancient Aacharyas. The genetic entities such as chromosome, genes, nucleotide sequence are referred in our samhitas in different terminologies. There are several references of Garbhasharir which are quoted in Brihattrayi and their commentaries as well as in different Ayurveda texts that need to be interpreted in proper way to make them applicable for our science and society too.[1] Beeja (ova/spermatozoa), beejabhaga (chromosomes) and beejabhagavayava (genes) are important terms described by ayurveda to explain defects in sperm and ovum. The beeja, beejabhaga and beejabhagavayava, if gets vitiated then are
considered responsible for hereditary /Congenital diseases. Proposed Article aims to compare the references in the ancient Ayurvedic texts to their possible comparative correlations of modern Genetics.
