Harshitha K.*, Dr. A. R. Shabaraya and Vinayak K.
ABSTRACT
Transdermal drug delivery refers to self-contained, discrete dose forms that, when applied to intact skin, transfer the drug to the systemic circulation at a controlled rate. Ethosomes are noninvasive delivery vehicles made composed of phospholipids, ethanol, and water that allow medications to reach deep into the epidermal layers or the systemic circulation. This review article summarizes structure, advantages, disadvantages, composition, additives used and mechanism of drug penetration, method of preparation, characterization and applications of ethosomes.
