ABSTRACT
In this study, Vernonia amygdalina Delile (V. amygdalina Del), was extracted under four conditions (aqueous extracts at room and hot conditions, ethanolic extracts at room and hot conditions). These extracts were screened the phytochemicals, biological activities. The phytochemical constituents (saponins, alkaloids, phenolics, steroids and glycosides) were determined. The antibacterial ability was examined in seven bacteria including Salmonella typhi ATCC 14930, Listeria monocytogenes ATCC 7644, Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 29213, Pseudomonas aeruginosa ATCC 27853, Staphylococcus sciuri ATCC 29061, Escherichia coli ATCC 25922, Vibrio paraheamolyticus ATCC 27969 with different concentrations (250 mg/mL, 500 mg/mL, 1000 mg/mL). Moreover, V. amygdalina Del is also proved the effects
against breast and liver cancer cell lines. However, the ethanolic extracts were apoptosis with the normal cells. This study warned the people to be carefull in proccessing this plant to obtain high bioactivities.
