AN AYURVEDIC MANAGEMENT OF ARDITA W.S.R TO BELL’S PALSY – A CASE REPORT

ABSTRACT
Ardita is one of the vatavyadhi explained in Ayurveda; which affects the face due to various causes, in which deviation of face to any of the side with weakness of the opposite side of face is noted .Bell’s palsy is a common condition of unknown cause affecting all ages & sex which can be correlated to Ardita in Ayurveda. Even though the cause is unknown, the site of damage is probably the portion of the facial nerve lying within the facial canal. There is no proven medical treatment though a course of steroids such as prednisolone 40 mg daily for a week may speed recovery. So some effective medicines from the Alternative medical sciences like Ayurveda have to be contributed in
its management as a measure of speedy recovery &complete cure as the main theme of Ayurvedic management is nidana parivarjana. Here is the case report of a patient affected with Bell’s palsy, being successfully managed with Ayurvedic medicines is recorded;where the patient is treated with internal medicines & snehan swedan ,pratimarsha nasya &Gandoosha as procedures.
