ABSTRACT
A new series of 8-Amino-11H-5,7,9,10,11-pentaazabenzo[b]-fluoren-
6-ol derivatives were synthesized by condensing Isatin and its
derivatives with 2,4,5-triamino-6-hydroxypyrimidinesulphate in
aqueous medium. Later these compounds were converted into their
corresponding Schiff’s bases by reacting with various aromatic
aldehydes. The chemical structures of the synthesized compounds were
confirmed by means of IR, 1H-NMR and Mass. Based on the
microbiological screening of the synthesized compounds, 4L was
selected for formulation of antimicrobial gel. The gel was formulated
by changing the polymer ratio. Gel formulations were characterized for
appearance, odor, pH, viscosity measurement, extrudability,
spreadability, stability studies and antimicrobial study. Among the
prepared formulations, gel prepared with 0.75% and 1% Carbopol were selected as the good
carrier for synthesized compounds.
Keywords: Isatin, 2,4,5-triamino-6-hydroxypyrimidinesulphate, Schiff’s bases, Microbiological screening, antimicrobial gel.
