ABSTRACT

With the increasing number of antibiotic resistant bacterial strains in the preset, the treatment options are becoming limited and hence an infection which should be cured easily are becoming life threatening as more and more bacteria are now showing resistance to a number of antibiotics, especially the Gram negative bacteria. This is where colistin, a polymyxin antibiotic comes into play. Its importance can be perceived from the fact that it is often termed as „Last Resort Antibiotic‟ against gram negative bacterial infections. This review attempts to provide all there is to know about this drug.
