ABSTRACT
Solid dispersion is a powerful method for the enhancement of solubility, dissolution and bioavailability of poorly soluble drugs. The water soluble carriers or polymers are used in the solid dispersion method to enhance the dissolution of poorly soluble drugs. Solid dispersion is defined as “a dispersion of more than one active ingredient (hydrophobic) in an inert carrier (hydrophilic) or matrix of solid state prepared by melting (fusion), solvent or melting solvent method. This review article includes classification, advantages and disadvantages, method of preparation, evaluation and polymers used in solid dispersion.
Keywords: Dissolution, solubility, bioavailability, solid dispersion, carriers.
