PHYTOCHEMICAL AND PHARMACOLOGICAL REVIEW OF AERVA LANATA

ABSTRACT
Aerva lanata (L.) A. L. Juss. ex Schultes is used as medicinal herb in several system of medicines. It possesses a wide variety of healing applications in traditional and folklore medicine. It comprises of an extensive range of phytochemicals such as canthin-6-one, β-carboline, alkaloids, flavonoids, phenolic acids, steroids, terpenoids. This review highlights the wide spectrum of medicinal values by focusing on their anticancer, antidiuretic, antiinflammatory, antimicrobial, antioxidant activities etc. obtained from the literature review performed using Pubmed, PMC, ScienceDirect, Google Scholar in a systematic way. A. lanata is belongs to the family Amaranthaceae and it is a common herbal medicine in India. The present literature discussed about the traditional as well as the therapeutical importance of the plant. This review is an attempt to explore the morphological, ethnomedicinal, phytochemical and pharmacological aspects of the plant to provide a direction for further future researches.
