ABSTRACT
Polycythemia is an abnormally increased concentration of hemoglobin in the blood either through reduction of plasma volume or increase in red cell numbers. It may be a primary disease of unknown cause or a secondary condition linked to respiratory, circulatory disorder or cancer. Except for the fact that disease is linked to genetic factors, in majority of the patients, there is no known cause for polycythemia. Considering the increase in the prevalence of the disease day by day, there is need to look for causes and pathogenesis of the polycythemia/shonitadushti. There are satisfactory similarities between the clinical features of polycythemia and the clinical presentations of shonitadushti. In most of the polycythemia patients, the commonest
symptoms are produced because of hyper viscosity induced poor tissue oxygenation.
Keywords: Polycythemia, Shonitadushti, blood.
