ABSTRACT
According great ancient medical science the Sarira is formed by innumerable number structure i.e. Pramāṇu, which are in present time considered as cells. For the existence of life, the three elements are most essential i.e. Prāṇa, Udaka and Anna are very important, body which is constituted by the seven Dhātus and three end products formed in the body due to catabolism of Dhatus i.e. Mūtra, Purīṣa and Sweda. Srotas are the inner transport system of the body which provide platform for activities of other important bio-factors like three dosh, the seven Dhatu, the Oja and the Agni etc. According to Charaka Samhita, Srotas is a structure through which Sravanam occurs. The internal transport system of the body is represented by Srotas and has
been given a place of fundamental importance in Ayurveda – both health and disease - an importance which recent developments in the field of medicine have begun to emphasis. Acharya Charaka has says- “No structure in the body can grow and develop or waste and atrophy, independent of Srotas that transport Dhatus, which latter are constantly subjected to (metabolic) transformations. Therefore any imbalance in structural, morphological or functional integrity of space or Srotas is detrimental to the health of the Srotas. Therefore the ancient sages might have seen the body in form of Srotas subtle and gross, in and out of the body and said “srotomayam ayam purush”.
