ABSTRACT
Ezetimibe and simvastatin is a drug combination used for the treat dyslipidemia. It is a combination of ezetimibe (known as Zetia in the US) and the statin drug simvastatin (known as Zocor in the US). Ezetimibe decreases blood cholesterol by acting on the brush border of the small intestine and block the absorption of cholesterol, lead to a reduce the delivery of intestinal cholesterol to the liver. Simvastatin is an HMG-CoA reductase inhibitor or statin. It act by blocking an enzyme that is essential for the body to make cholesterol. Generic versions were approved in 2017. The combination of ezetimibe and simvastatin is marketed by Merck & Co. under the trade names Vytorin in the United states and Inegy in the European Union. It was the 298th most commonly prescribed medicine in the US, In 2017. with more than one million prescription. This review includes most recent analytical methods such as various spectroscopic methods (simultaneous estimation) and chromatographic methods (RP-HPLC, HPTLC) for determination of ezetimibe and simvastatin in pharmaceutical dosage form.
