Abstract

VATSANABHA - VISHESHATAHA KASAHARAM

Dr. Divya Shekar B.*, and Dr. Surekha S. Medikeri

ABSTRACT

Ayurveda, a commonly practiced system of medicine in India, has its unique proposition to the concept of health and disease. At one end it identifies various material based properties which determine the pharmacological property of the drug used; on the other hand it also identifies various psycho-physical composition of person to be treated as a factor, which may influence the action profile of the drug under use. Vatsanabha (aconite) finds its place in Ayurvedic material medica since antiquity though with a clear caution before it is used. Ayurveda says, a deadly material can also be turned into a savior or even the vice versa depending upon the methods of use. Vatsanabha is one such poisonous drug which acts as amrita when used judiciously after proper Shodhana (purification). Kasa is the debilating disease of pranavaha srotas which is both swatantra vyadhi and lakshana ,involving dooshana of pranavata and udanavata, when untreated ,it may lead to dreadful diseases like shwasa, kshaya etc. Even after extensive scientific research, the contemporary treatment provides only symptomatic relief rather than permanent cure of condition. Hence a treatment approach with Vatsanabha which is considered as Amritha in Ayurveda with faster action and higher efficacy , is the need of the hour. Hence an attempt is made to review the yogas having vatsanabha as a chief ingredient in maximum references.

Keywords: Vatsanabha, Kasa, Amritha, Ayurveda.
