ROLE OF RUH-I-NAFS?NIYYA IN CAUSATION OF DUW?R (VERTIGO) AND SADR (DIZZINESS)

ABSTRACT
Dizziness, vertigo and giddiness are usually used interchangeably in day to day language. Dizziness, and giddiness are actually sensation of light headedness, unsteadiness and the feeling of fainting, whereas, vertigo is spinning and whirling sensation. Both vertigo and dizziness are very common symptom in all clinical presentation. In modern medicine these are considered as symptom of a disease, while in Unani System of medicine these are considered as separate disease/entity that result from obstruction in passage of ruh-i-nafsāniyya in brain by various causes. The relevant literary material of duwār-o-sadr is collected from various classical Unani books and their translations, journals etc. The aim of this paper is to highlight difference between
duwār-o-sadr by explaining aetiology and pathogenesis of these two conditions.
