CRITICAL REVIEW OF IN-VITRO ANTISICKLING ACTIVITY OF CERTAIN MEDICINAL PLANTS

ABSTRACT
Sickle cell disease also known as Drepanocytosis, is a genetic autosomal recessive blood disorder found mainly in tropical region. In India, the prevalence rate of heterozygote among the many tribal population varies from 1-40 %. Ayurveda an ancient health science provides many useful remedies for these types of advanced diseases. Number of traditional drugs have been studied for their In-vitro anti-sickling and antioxidant activity but till date no effort has been taken to formulate a concised document including all these studies in single document. Hence this review article focus to enlist the antisickling activity of cerain medicinal plants. D. brazzae, O. canun, N. divaricate, J. gendarussa shows normalization rate of Sickle cells more than 80%
as well as D. brazzae, T. arjuna, T. bellirica and Z. heitzii show significant antioxidant activity.
