ABSTRACT
A series of new urea derivatives (3a-d) and thiourea derivatives (5a-f) have been synthesized in high yields (77-88%) by the reaction of substituted aryl isocynates (2a-d) and substituted aryl isothiocynates (4a-f) with 4-aminobenzoichydrazide (1). Their structures were established by spectral data. The title compounds were screened for anti-microbial activity. The present study revealed that Gram negative and positive bacteria such as E.coli & S.aureus were more susceptible to the solvent extracts. The methanol and acetone extracts of the samples were evaluated for in vitro anti-bacterial activity against human pathogenic bacteria Escherichia coli and Streptococcus aureus
and the anti-fungal activity against Aspergillus niger and Aspergillus oryzae.
Keywords: Urea, thiourea, anti-bacterial activity, anti-fungal activity.
