ABSTRACT
The purpose of present research work was to develop Sustained Release Microspheres of Propylthiouracil with an aim to achieve the more predictability and reproducibility to control the drug release, drug concentration in the target tissue and optimization of the therapeutic effect of a drug by controlling its release in the body with lower and less frequent dose. Microspheres were prepared by Ionotropic gelation Technique using HPMC E15, Sodium Alginate and Carbapol 934 grade polymer. Drug polymer interaction studies were carried out by FTIR spectroscopy and DSC Study revealed that there was no drug to
polymer interactions. The microspheres were evaluated with respect to the % yield, Particle size, % Entrapment efficiency, % Drug loading, and Micromeritic Properties, in-vitro and in-vitro drug release. The size of prepared optimized batch 4 microsphere is 100 um. The Batch code F1, F3, F4, and F6 with combination of HPMC E 15, Carbapol 934 and Sodium Alginate polymer shows good drug released pattern up to 24 hrs.
