Veena Jawale and Vinaya Babasaheb Shetti*

ABSTRACT

PCOS is the most common endocrinological disorder found in women of reproductive age group. This disease is related to the cystic changes in the ovary. The follicles develop from primordial follicles but the development stops at an early antral stage due to the disturbed ovarian function. PCOS manifests clinically in different ways. In Ayurveda, PCOS can be considered as Rasa-Medo Dhatupradoshaja Vikara with vitiation of Kapha and Vata Dosha mainly. Its Chiktsa mainly comprises Aampachana, Agnideepana, Sharirshodhana, Basti and Lekhana Upkramas along with proper Pathyapalan related to Ahar, Vihara and Yogabhyas. Ayurveda prefers prevention of disease by following Dincharya and Ritucharya, by use of Pathya Aahar, Vihar, Aushadh and by avoiding Apathya aahar, Vihar, Prajnaparadha, Mandagni, and Kaphvardhak aahar and other etiological factors. Therefore Kaphashamana, insulin rebalancing with the help of Ahara and various Asanas can helps to prevent and treat PCOS.
