REVIEW ON PHYTOCONSISTUENTS AND PHARMACOLOGICAL ACTIVITIES OF GARCINIA GUMMI-GUTTA

ABSTRACT
Traditional Plants are good sources of Medicine. The Secondary metabolites consists of various phytoconsistuents that are reliable candidates for exhibiting pharmacological actions. The Plant Garcinia gummi-gutta or Garcinia cambogia belongs to the family Clusiaceae (Guttifera). The dried rind has been used as a food, preservative, flavouring agent and carminative. They are marketed mainly as an ingredient of dietary supplements for weight loss in developed countries. They are popularly known in South India as Kudampully, Penampully, Malabar Tamarind etc. The Phytoconsistuents Hydroxy citric acid is notable for its Hypolipidemic activity. The plant consistuents that are isolated from different parts of Garcinia gummi-
gutta, includes Garcinol, Isogarcinol, Flavanoids, Garbogiol, Hydroxy citric acid, alkaloids, terpenoids etc.
