ABSTRACT
Amniotic embolism is a rare obstetric emergency. It usually occurs late in pregnancy during labor and delivery. Although estimates of mortality vary widely (around 20-90%), It results from the passage of amniotic fluid by rupture of the uteroplacental barrier. The clinical picture combines respiratory, hemodynamic, neurological signs and disseminated intravascular coagulopathy which may be preceded by premonitory signs. The early treatment of shock, respiratory failure and delivery haemorrhage determines the prognosis. We report the case of a patient suffering from an amniotic embolism following a cesarean section.
