REVIEW ON ANTI DIABETIC EFFECT OF MADHUCA INDICA FLOWER EXTRACT

ABSTRACT
The prevalence of diabetes among the world population is 8.8%,
according to the International Diabetic Federation (IDF) this will raise
to 9% in 2045.[1] Even in the time of developed research and studies
people are still struggling to manage Diabetes mellitus. Ayurveda has
given a deep approach to the disease ‘madhumeha. As per Ayurveda
texts, the use of Madhu or Madhura rasa is not prohibited in diabetes
and is indicated for suppressing the Vatavridhi state of the madhumeha
patients including brimhana or vatashamaka chikitsa along with
madhura rasa. But in the current DM management, physicians hesitate
to follow our ancient chikitsa siddhanta. Madhuca indica is a
therapeutically significant plant in the Ayurveda as well as in the
traditional medical system. The flower extract of M.indica is sweet in taste and been used as a
sweetener. The study is aimed to analyze anti diabetic effect of Madhuca indica flower
extract using scientific evidences and classical Ayurveda references.
