ABSTRACT

Ayurveda is one of the oldest systems of medicine with its root in India which is called the ancient science of life. The facts regarding health, diseases, maintenance of health and prevention of diseases through positive lifestyle were explained since long back in Ayurvedic classics viz. Charaka Samhita, Sushruta Samhita etc. Rasashastra and Bhaishajya Kalpana is the branch of Ayurveda which deals with herbal and herbo-mineral drugs for therapeutic use. Pharmaceutical processes involve the different techniques which modify the natural products into much better therapeutically potent dosage forms. Through this, the medicines can be made easily absorbable into the biological systems by specific processing methods resulting in the adoption of newer properties. Sneha Kalpana[1] is a pharmaceutical process resulting in oleaginous medicinal substances. Sneha Kalpana include Ghrita and Taila Kalpana[2] Taila Kalpana is a technique where Taila is used as a base to get properties of the herbs into the media. In the preparation of the Pinda Taila Cream & Pinda Taila Gel, the base ingredients used was Pinda Taila. This phase of study aims to develop SOP (Standard Operating Processes) and S.M.P. (Standard Manufacturing Procedure) for the preparation of Pinda Taila, Pinda Taila Cream & Pinda Taila Gel using classical and modified methods. To date, little work has been done on the scientific evaluation of Pinda Taila. Also, there are no any modified method forms of Pinda Taila available in the market. Therefore, an attempt was made to formulate and prepare its new dosage forms which were named Pinda Taila Cream and Pinda Taila Gel.
