ABSTRACT
Phytomedicines are traditionally used to treat various diseases. The present study was aimed to find out antibacterial activity and phytochemical study on Cocos nucifera and Musa acuminata leaf extract against pathogens causing nosocomial infection. The leaf extracts of C. nucifera and M. acuminata were prepared by Continuous Soxhlet extraction and cold extraction method. Antibacterial activity of both extracts against Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli and Pseudomonas aeruginosa were studied by agar well diffusion method and phytochemical analysis was carried out. Antibacterial activity were present in both the extracts, methanol extract of Musa acuminata and Cocos nucifera showed maximum antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus followed by the methanol extract of Cocos
nucifera against Escherichia coli. Phytochemical analysis showed presence of carbohydrates, alkaloids, tannins, saponins and cardiac glycosides in both extract. Biological active compounds present in this plant extract have been shown to possess pharmacological and physiological roles to develop plant medicines various application in pharmaceutical industries.
