ABSTRACT
Tablet is the unit solid dosage form which contains active pharmaceutical ingredients and excipients manufactured by compression technique and administered by oral route of administration. Modified release is the dosage form which release the drug at chosen location in at right time to achieve the therapeutic effect which never achieved by the conventional dosage form. Modified release tablets are categorized in two types such as Delayed release tablet and Extended-release tablet. Extended-release tablets reduce the dosing frequency by releasing the drug up to 24 hrs. From the tablet dosage form. In these review information related to extended release tablet is included which covers formulation development, list of different polymers which gives prolonged release of drug, Physicochemical and biological properties of drug which are suitable for extended release tablets, different types of extended release products such as Diffusion-controlled products, Dissolution-controlled products, Erosion products, Osmotic pump systems and evaluation of extended release tablets which include tablets hardness, thickness, friability, weight variation, dissolution studies, content uniformity and stability studies.
