ABSTRACT
Valsartan is an orally active antihypertensive drug having poor solubility in water ultimately responsible for low bioavailability. Purpose: Present study was conducted to improve the solubility of Valsartan using mixed hydrotropic solid dispersion approach. Method: The investigation has been made by assessing solubility of drug in individual hydrotropic agent and then with combinations of hydrotropic agent. Various hydrotropic agents were employed individually in varying concentrations of 5%w/v to 40%w/v. The shake flask method was employed to characterize the solubility of drug pre and post mixed Hydrotropy application. Result: The results so obtained were indicative of solubility enhancement of Valsartan in combination of hydrotropes than that of individual hydrotrope concentration. Conclusion: Hydrotropic solubilization of poorly soluble drug using non micelle developing substances is the effective, nontoxic and green technology.
