ABSTRACT
Pure uterine causes of infertility are rare but are constantly increasing with age and duration of infertility. Means of exploring the uterine cavity include hysterosalpingography, ultrasound, hysterosonography and hysteroscopy. Diagnostic hysteroscopy is not one of the first-line examinations in the exploration of infertility. It is indicated if there is a suggestive history or if there is a sign of a need for ultrasound or hysterography. In patients who are candidates for IVF, a clear increase in uterine abnormalities is described, the diagnosis and treatment of which could improve the results in terms of implantation and pregnancy. While the indication for hysteroscopy after multiple failed transfers appears to be consensual, its use prior to the first attempt remains controversial. However, all recent data agree that diagnostic hysteroscopy prior to IVF has a beneficial effect on implantation, regardless of the outcome.
Keywords: Hysteroscopy, IVF, uterine abnormalities.
