ABSTRACT
This study was conducted to elucidate the ameliorating effect of L-carnitine (LC) alone or with coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10) or α-lipoic acid (ALA) as well as their combination in cardiovascular dysfunction as a result of administration of lipopolysaccharide (LPS) as a single dose in rats. So, this work was included two experiments. The first experiment was made to compare the alterations in the serum heart enzymes (CK, CK-MB, LDH and AST) activities and lipid profile (T-Ch, TG, HDL-Ch and LDL-Ch) concentration as well as oxidative and antioxidants (heart GSH, GPx, SOD and CAT activities and serum TNO level) status due to the administration of LPS in rats. The second experiment was made to clarify the curative effects of LC alone or with CoQ10 or ALA on cardiovascular dysfunction in rat groups. The LPS rat groups were being treated daily with LC alone or with CoQ10 or ALA as well as their mixture for 7 and 14 days after three days of LPS injection. The obtained data revealed that LPS induced a significant (P<0.001) increment in both serum activities of heart enzymes and lipid profile. After LPS rat groups treated with LC alone or with CoQ10 or ALA as well as their mixture a significant (P<0.05) correction effects in all studied parameters were pronounced dependent on time of treatment (7 &14 days). The underlying mechanisms of these effects were discussed with available researches.
