ABSTRACT
We report a case of long term fever, following an episode of seizure
that featured brain stem encephalitis and led to coma. There was a
provisional diagnosis of dengue made by low platelets, and serum
antibodies from the cerebrospinal fluid. The platelets count remained
low, while his fever didn’t reduce since 2 weeks. The patient had
characteristics of brain stem encephalitis when confirmed under
Computerized Tomography (CT) scan, but no signs of dengue
hemorrhage. In this case, dengue alone was not the only cause for
encephalitis, leaving behind possibilities for various other reasons.
This case emphasizes on the diagnosis and medical management of
such complex conditions.
