ABSTRACT
Cubosomes are self-assembled nano structured liquid crystalline particles which exhibit different internal cubic structure and composition. Cubosomes are square and rounded particles with internal cubic lattice. Hydrating a surfactant or polar lipid that forms cubic phase and then dispersing a solid like phase into smaller particles usually forms a cubosomes. They perform solid like rheology with unique properties of practical interest. They are mainly thermodynamically stable. They are curved by continuous lipid bi-layers organized in three dimensional structures which resemble a honeycomb like structure. The complex structure mainly allows them to have greater drug loading ability. By continuous refers to division of two continuous aqueous regions by lipid bi-layer which does not intersect and are twisted into space filling structures. The bi-continuous cubic liquid phase is visually clear and viscous material. Cubosomes have the ability to encapsulate hydrophilic, hydrophobic and ampiphilic substances. It has a higher surface area. Cubosomes are mainly responsible for increasing the solubility of poorly soluble drug substances. Cubosomes dispersion are mainly bio-adhesive and biocompatible. Cubosomes are administrable by different ways such as orally, parenterally and percutaneously. Cubosomes are gaining more attention by pharmaceutical sectors and serves as carriers in drug delivery for bioactive molecules like chemicals, drugs, proteins and peptides. Cubosomes protects the substances from hydrolysis, oxidation and other ways of drug degradation which in turn improves the drug bioavailability. Cubosomes Offers alternative yet a cost-effective opportunity in formulation science.
