ABSTRACT

Medicinal chemistry is the science that deals with the discovery and design of new therapeutic chemicals and their development into useful medicines. Most of its activity is directed to new natural or synthetic organic compounds. Development of organic compounds has grown beyond traditional synthetic methods. In recent years, medicinal chemistry has undergone a revolutionary change. Rapid advances in biological sciences have resulted in a much better understanding of how the body functions at the cellular and the molecular level. As a result, most research projects in the pharmaceutical industry now begin by identifying a suitable target in the body and designing drug to interact with the target.
