ABSTRACT
Cronopoussquamatusand Deplotaxisacrisare two cruciferous plants growing in Egypt. Fractionation of the total glucosinolates of both plants was carried out. The study of the glucosinolate content of C. squamatusled to isolation and identification of 4-Ethylsulfinyl-4-phenylbutylglucosinolate and 2-Methylthioethyl glucosinolate, while the study of theglucosinolate contents of D. acris revealed the presence of 6-Ethylsulfinyl-6-phenyl-5-hexenyl glucosinolate and 16-Ethylsulfonyl 15-hexadecenyl glucosinolate. The identification of the isolated glucosinolates wassubstantiated through different chemical methods (enzymatic hydrolysis) and spectroscopic determinations (UV, MS and GC-MS for the corresponding isothiocyanates). The study of antituomer activity of total glucosinolates of both plants and individual compounds using SRB assay proved that the IC50 for the total glucosinolates of both plants is 1.3μg and that of the compound 16-Ethylsulfonyl 15-hexadecenyl glucosinolate is the most active one where it exhibited IC50= 1.37μg.
