DAVID HOZAC (31.08.1769-22.12.1835) - DOCTOR, BOTANIC, TEACHER AND SCIENTIST, FOUNDER OF THE FIRST BOTANICAL GARDEN IN NEW YORK IN 1801

ABSTRACT
Aim of the research: To acquaint the pharmaceutical community with the ideas and activities of David Hughax, a brilliant American surgeon and botanist of world renown and recognition. Materials and Methods: The historical method is applied. The two biographical novels about Dr. Hozak by Victoria Johnson and Christine Roberts are analyzed. Dr. Hozak's scientific publications in the field of medicine and medicinal plants have been used, and letters from his correspondence with the most famous botanists around the world have been studied. Results: Born and raised in New York during the British occupation, determined to study medicine and botany in Europe (London, Paris, Edinburgh), he returned to America to apply his knowledge and skills to well-being. of his beloved hometown and homeland. The young doctor and professor of medicine and botany set himself one goal above all others - to create the first botanical garden in New York of the European type, which he managed to realize with his own funds in 1801. Conclusion: With the opening of the botanical garden, he is confident that this will not only provide a good training base for students, but will conduct research on growing species throughout the continent and around the world.
