ABSTRACT
Antioxidant, cytotoxic and phytochemical analysis of rare/endangered medicinal plant Saraca asoca was compared with its alternative species Saraca declineta. Methanolic extract of the leaves was prepared for both the species. Moisture Flavonoids was present in both methanolic leaf extracts of Saraca asoka and Saraca declineta. Terpenoids and phlobotannins were present only in Saraca asoka but absent in Saraca declineta. Tannin was present in both the species. Total phenolic and flavonoid content in Saraca declineta was more than Saraca asoka. TLC based and in FRAP assay, antioxidant activity of Saraca declineta was better than the rare medicinal plant. However, cytotoxic activity using brine shrimp assay failed to elicit any significant results.
