EVALUATION OF UNANI FORMULATION, LIFESTYLE MODIFICATIONS AND YOGA IN HYPERTENSION PATIENTS UNDER NPCDCS AYUSH (UNANI), LAKHIMPUR KHERI

ABSTRACT
Hypertension is one of the leading causes of the global burden of diseases, Approximately 7.6 million deaths (13-15% of the total) and 92 million disability adjusted life years worldwide were attributed to high blood pressure in 2001. Level of Blood pressure increases with age and the prevalence of hypertension vary among countries and among subpopulations within a country. Keeping in view of the current burden of NCDs (Hypertension, Diabetes), a collaborative pilot project of Directorate General of Health Services and Ministry of AYUSH was launched namely Integration of AYUSH systems in National Programme for Prevention and Control of Cancer, Diabetes, Cardiovascular Diseases and Stroke (NPCDCS) known as NPCDCS-AYUSH Integration Project. The project on integration of Unani Medicine in NPCDCS was officially launched by Central Council for Research in Unani Medicine (CCRUM) in June 2016 at Lakhimpur-Kheri District (LKD), Uttar Pradesh and is being implemented in all the 17 Community Health Centers (CHCs) and one District Hospital (DH) of Lakhimpur-Kheri. In this study patients of Hypertension were advised Allopathic Medicine/ Unani formulation, Yoga and lifestyle modifications. There is a significant decrease in systolic as well as diastolic blood pressure was seen as well as doses of Allopathic medicines were also decreased in many patients.
