ABSTRACT
In current study, an attempt has been taken for formulation and evaluation of gel containing various extracts of Achryanthes aspera Linn. for anti-acne activity. The gel containing methanol, ethyl acetate and chloroform extract of Achryanthes aspera was prepared. Preliminary phytochemical screening of all extracts showed the presence of alkaloids, glucosides, steroids, terpenoids, proteins and tannins. The anti-acne activity was investigated against bacteria i.e Propionibacterium acne by the well diffusion method by maintaining anaerobic conditions. It was observed that gel of the methanolic extract passes all test of evaluation and was found to be most active against acne causing micro-organism. The result obtained in the present study suggests that Achryanthes aspera based gel has significant scope to develop a unique broad spectrum of anti-acne herbal formulation.
