ABSTRACT
A ventricular septal defect (VSD) is a hole or a defect in the septum that separates the two lower chambers of the heart, resulting in contact between the ventricular cavities. Hypoplastic left heart syndrome refers to the abnormal development of the left-sided cardiac structures, resulting in obstruction to blood flow from the left ventricular outflow tract. Current case is of a 23 year old female whose fetus was diagnosed with ventricular septal defect along with hypoplastic left heart syndrome. Heart appeared in the middle position, four chambered view shows hypoplastic left heart chambers and dilated right heart chambers, muscular ventricular septal defect seen and outflow tracts appeared abnormal. After examining all the parameters the doctor suggested to abort the fetus. Delivering a baby with this defect was risk for the baby as well as the mother and may even end up with death of the baby. This case report concludes that, prenatal diagnosis and proper counselling helps to prevent long term neurologic condition and reduces rate of morbity after birth.
