Abstract
GASTRORETENTIVE DRUG DELIVERY SYSTEM: A REVIEW
Wakchaure S. M.*
ABSTRACT
Oral sustained drug delivery system is tedious because of limited gastric residence time. The rapid gastrointestinal transit can prevent complete drug release at the absorption site and reduce the efficacy of administered dose, since the majority of drugs that are absorbed in stomach or the upper part of small intestine.[1] Gastroretentive drug delivery at ensures that dosage form remains within the stomach for longer period of time.[10] The gastrorentive drug delivery offers several advantages for drugs having poor bioavailability due to having the narrow absorption window in the upper part of the gastrointestinal tract. It retains the dosage form within the site of absorption and thus enhances its bioavailability.[1]
