IMPACT OF COVID-19 ON AGEING AND PATIENTS WITH EXISTING COMORBIDITIES: A REVIEW

ABSTRACT
An acute respiratory diseases caused by novel corona virus known as COVID-19, which has been declared as a pandemic worldwide. An accelerated spreading of this virus proves to be more severe in present days. Social distancing and quarantine policy have been implemented all over the country to prevent and control such epidemic crisis. Generally novel corona virus is a single stranded RNA, that damages the respiratory system and clinical symptoms like dry cough, fever, dizziness, shortness of breath has been noted, which creates complications in old age patients. In aged patients the body muscles and immune system get weaken and due to depletion of various enzymes their body generates various toxic free radicals which worsen the body system and make them quite vulnerable to many complications. As per current affairs, proper medical treatment or any vaccine has not come into existence so such patients are at a greater risk. Major attention is required due to presence of Comorbidities like hypertension, cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, chronic respiratory diseases, cancer, compromised immune system, and multiple organ dysfunctions. To manage such complicated situation with ongoing medication options, it‘s difficult to compensate with the global outbreak of Covid-19. The current review will try to emphasize on the impact of corona virus on various organ systems in aged patients and patients with existence of co-morbidities. Prophylactic measures in the elderly must be vital for surviving against this infection.
