COPD: ITS MANAGEMENT THROUGH UNANI MODALITIES- AN OVERVIEW

ABSTRACT
Objectives: The explanation and scientific validation of Unani modalities applicable for the management of COPD. Background:Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is defined as a disease state characterized by airflow limitation that is not fully reversible. It is the third leading cause of death and affects >10 million persons in the United state and also increasing public health importance around the world. An estimated that it will rise from sixth to the third most common cause of death worldwide. The prevalence of this disease is higher in countries where smoking is highly prevalent. The prevalence range between 2 to 22 percent among the men and 1.2 to 19 percent of women in different population-based studies across India. Conclusion: The treatment modalities present in Unani system of medicine are quite effective with no or minimal adverse effects.Therefore, the efficacy and outcomes of different treatment modalities described in text should be further evaluated and validated by randomized clinical trial.
