V. Chanukya*, P. Abdul Munaff and P. Rajarajeswari

ABSTRACT

Background:Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) is a common, preventable and treatable disease that is characterized by persistent respiratory symptoms and airflow limitation that is due to airway and/or alveolar abnormalities usually caused by significant exposure to noxious particles or gases.Aim:The aim of the study is to compare efficacy and safety of Formoterol with Tiotropium and Formoterol with Glycopyrronium in COPD patients.Materials and Methods:A prospective observational study was done which included 84 COPD patients, followed over a period of 6 months. The data was collected from patients in a pre designed patient’s proforma was assessed as per the study objectives. Results:Among the 120 patients Group A60 patients were treated with Formoterol (6mcg) with Tiotropium (9mcg) and Group B 60 patients were treated with Formoterol (6mcg) with Glycopyrronium (25mcg). The Group B patients had FEV1/FVC ratio improved by of 6.13% than in patients of Group A. The patients in Group B had experienced fewer side effects when compared to the patients in Group A, proving Group B patients with were more safety therapy. Conclusion: It was observed that both combinations of drugs were found to be efficacious in treatment of COPD. Formoterol in combination with Glycopyrronium had shown better efficacy and safety when compare to Formoterol with Tiotropium.
