A THERAPEUTIC REVIEW OF JEERAKA (CUMINUM CYMINUM LINN.)

ABSTRACT
Cuminum cyminum is a medicinal plant belong to Apiaceae family and this drug is very important and famous for its medicinal properties. It is dry, astringent, appetizing, digestive, strengthening, light for digestion, good for the eyes and an aphrodisiac and it is very good for maintain the metabolic activity of the body. It is used in the treatment of different diseases like indigestion, dysentery, enlarged spleen, flatulence and vomiting as it is included in shoolaprashaman and shirovirechan mahakshaya by Aacharya Charaka and in Pippliyadigana by Aachrya Sushruta .In India it is commonly known as jeeraka, and it is the ingredient in many of the formulations in Ayurveda like Lavana bhaskara choorana, Narayana choorana,
Agnimukha choorana etc. so the endeavor of this work is to explicate the all clinical uses of Jeeraka in Ayurvedic samhitas.
