A CONCISE REVIEW: SUSTAINED RELEASE DRUG DELIVERY SYSTEM
Ms. Shramika A. Chore* and Dr. Sachin J. Dighade
ABSTRACT
Oral conventional route of drug administration lies at the top of the hierarchy of the conventional routes. It is a reasonable assumption that drug concentration at the site of action is related to drug plasma level and that, in the great majority of cases, the intensity of effect is some function of drug concentration at the target site. The objective of the most therapeutic regimens is to rapidly raise the plasma concentration to the required level and then to hold it constant for the desired duration of treatment. Poor patient compliance, due to adverse effects, forgetfulness. Increased potential for first pass metabolism. The principal goal of sustained release forms is the improvement of drug
therapy assessed by the relationship between advantages and disadvantages of the use of sustained release system.
